  NYB 1997 met from May 14 to May 22 and rehearsed in Sherbrooke, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario performing at various sites including the Festival des Harmonies du Quebec and MusicFest Canada. The 1997 NYB rehearsed under guest director Maestro Stephane Laforest. The students had the opportunity to attend the Festival of Bands at Sherbrooke, Quebec giving two public performances before travelling to Ottawa to take part in MusicFest evening concerts before the many thousand performers from across Canada. The NYB was featured in four Gala Performances during the two week session. Guest soloist for the concerts that the band performed was Yamaha percussionist Marie-Josee Simard.
