CBA Composition Competition Winner
The winner of the Canadian Band Association’s inaugural Composition Competition is “Rocky Mountain Lullaby” by Christiaan Venter. The jury was particularly struck by Venter’s ability to create interesting, yet technically accessible music. Information about perusing the winning work will be forthcoming. Mr. Venter will receive $1,000 for his efforts and “Rocky Mountain Lullaby” will be recorded by all of the ensembles in the competition consortium. The national jury that reviewed the 28 submissions included conductor Dr. Darrin Oehlerking (University of Saskatchewan), composer Dr. Patrick Carrabre (University of Brandon), and composer Dr. Clark Ross (Memorial University of Newfoundland).
Le gagnant du concours pour la composition inaugurale de L’Association canadienne des harmonies est “Rocky Mountain Lullaby” par Christiaan Venter. Vingt-huit entrées, à travers le pays ont été reçues et, passée en revue par un jury national composé de Dr Darrin Oehlerking, chef d’orchestre à l’Université de Saskatchewan, le compositeur Dr Patrick Carrabre à l’Université de Brandon et le compositeur Dr Clark Ross au Memorial University of Newfoundland. Le jury était particulièrement emballé par son habileté d’avoir créé une pièce intéressante, alors que techniquement la musique était accessible et compréhensible. De l’information concernant une lecture attentive de la pièce gagnante est à venir. Monsieur Venter va recevoir 1000,00 $ pour ses efforts et la pièce “Rocky Mountain Lullaby” sera enregistrée par tous les ensembles dans le consortium du concours.
